About For the amor of language

My LinkedIn profile says that I love helping people solve their language crises. It’s true. I could call myself an editor/quality assurance specialist/proofreader, but those are only aspects of what I do. I’m a language negotiator. Whether it is in one language or more, my career has been built on helping people express their thoughts, professions, desires, fears, etc. Most people know what they want to say and how they want to say it. They just struggle with how to fine-tune it.

I taught Spanish and English for 11 years at the high school and 4-year and two-year college levels, all while pursuing higher degrees. I’ve worked in advertising as a bilingual proofreader/quality assurance specialist for the past nine plus years. Also, I’ve worked as a freelance translator/editor for many years. I love language in its original forms and then seeing it transformed into something new through translation. There’s never been a more exciting time to discuss translation and language as MT (Machine Translation) is improving every day. Though I really believe nothing can truly replace the labor, love, and nuance of human translation.

I started this blog to talk about mainly translation and translation issues. However, as I’ve thought about it during my hiatus, I really want it to be a discussion about language and languages and about the love for the study of what moves us to communicate and figure out our language issues.
